Hey there! Love this rig, got to do an actual project with it and everything. However, I wanted to add a mouth on my rig but I can't add another UV Map because the max is 8. I have 6 maps for pupil, eye, and eyebrows, UVMap and TEXCOORD_0. Any clue on how I can fit one more for the mouth?

Very helpful... this is like the first tutorial I've seen where someone explains how to make seamless video game textures in Gimp.
This is my absolute favorite blender tutorial of all time! Thank you so much for taking the time to throughly explain each step. I am looking for help on how to modify the facial rig to better fit my art style and anyone reading this has any advice I would very much appreciate the guidance. In my art style, I don’t fill in the white of characters’ eyes. Ex) Scooby Doo: Legend of the Phantosaur My plan was to use the white of the eyes act as a range for the pupil movement (potentially down the line to have white be a more specific color), but then the white would then be made to appear invisible on the rest of the model without the pupil. I've experienced difficulty trying to incorporate this concept with the facial rig - I've tried using various transparency shader methods, but most haven't worked as intended, especially needing the mix shader for the transparency needing to occur after all the multiply shaders.
Well, based on what I'm reading, you can basically ignore adding the white of the eyes and just layer the pupils on with alpha. Maybe make an alpha mask where the pupils can go instead of using the white of the idea as a sort of way to do that

Update on the rig: I created an alpha mask as suggested and used a series of mix shader nodes to layer everything as the transparency node does not work with the normal mix node. Though my model appears as intended, I've encountered a new problem. If the pupil moves onto the black fill of the mask, it will remain visible though the pupil's color will become one singular color. Ex) Character's pupil has drawn on highlights and shadows, but moving it outside of the white of alpha mask will remove the details and it'll just be a singular shade of blue. I have been playing around with the sequence order of the mix shader nodes, but to no avail. I feel close to the end result, just don't know what's triggering the 'turning into one solid color' part.

Fantastic walkthrough on this Sickly. That said, seems like putting these together would be pretty tricky (building multiple scenes then stitching them all together as one big world to explore). Do you have any tutorials on that? Thank you for all you do!

I've been trying to vertex paint my models in the same style as Banjo Kazooie, however, I've noticed that there are specific regions of Banjo's model where there isn't interpolation happening across the faces. His stomach and his fur have a clearly defined boundary that doesn't interpolate between the brown and the skin. Do you know how to replicate this without assigning a different vertex color material to those specific faces? That's the only solution I can think of but I'm not sure that's how they would have done it, and I want to be as faithful as possible in my models.
Use a face mask, that should create hard edges

Technicly you are still only putting different colors on parts of the same material instead of mixing materials. If you export it from blender tho then you can use the splat map to mix materials.
Yeah it'd have to be baked to truely "mix" the materials.
@@DraconicKobold or, if you are exporting to a target you replicate your targets shader to intemperate the same data, texture splattering algorithm is on wikipedia or you can just use a lerp node or function to simulate the blender mix node
cant you splatmap with a graysale map and some custom ramps so you can encode more textures?
Yes! Alternatively, you could even apply that same idea to the 3 RGB channels, splitting each each channel into their own weighted channel map.
